Becoming a Green Sanctuary is one of the ways we are working toward a vision of healthier, more sustainable future. The Green Sanctuary Program provides a path for congregational study, reflection, and action for today’s environmental challenges – including climate change and environmental justice. Environmental Justice emphasizes a shift from providing charity to working in solidarity with the communities most affected by climate change.

The mission of the ‘AUUC Green Sanctuary Project’ is to lead us to live healthier, more sustainable, and just lives for ourselves, our congregation, and our planet. We do this by:

  • Honoring and celebrating our role in the interdependent web of the Earth
  • Sharing tools and support to live more meaningfully with less damage to our world and its creatures
  • Building community with others to achieve these goals

Our team’s focus has been directed largely by our 7th Principle. As we look at possible projects, our discussions have always been led by the idea of “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.”
We invite all who share these values to join us on this journey of connection, sustainability, and hope. Contact our social justice committee to get involved.
